KinSync 2018

“There’s no place like KinSync, There’s no place like KinSync, There’s no place like KinSync”!!! Like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz we all wish we could click our heels together and go back to KinSync Land on 2nd and 3rd February. What a weekend…………

From the full Dress Rehearsal on Thursday 1st right through to the last show on Saturday night 3rd February – it was fun, fun, fun and wonderful entertainment from start to finish.

Our 10 remarkable acts, who it has to be said went above and beyond the call of duty, treated us all to an amazing two shows. Each act gave it everything on stage in front of family, friends and the community of Kinsale – props and costumes were top class – a few acts getting into character perhaps a little too much and looking strangely way way too comfortable :-) (LOL). We laughed till tissues had to be produced (the hope of salvaging the make-up well and truly gone – the ladies in the audience had the same problem:-) !!!!); we were left marvelling at Broadway standard dramatics, blown away by first class Pop Star dance routines in complete sync, comic performances of ‘A night at the Apollo’ standard – in a word it was ‘Epic’. We will all be forever grateful to all of our incredible acts who have ensured that KinSync will without doubt live long in all our memories as one of the greatest highlights of 2018 and possibly for many years to come.

At the helm and keeping the show flowing were our two fabulous Comperes for both nights. The pairing of dynamic duo Carol O Callaghan and Con O Callaghan to host both nights together was one of THE BEST decisions made when putting KinSync together and the committee are shamelessly boasting about and claiming full credit for this fantastic idea!!!
The word amazing somehow doesn’t begin to describe the huge impact Carol and Con brought to KinSync in keeping the shows running smoothly and ‘ticking over nicely’. Their rapport and interaction with one another, with the audience (when they went on walkabout!), with the Acts and with the Judges was top-notch. Commentary flowed easily and naturally as they brought the audience along on the KinSync journey seamlessly through the 3 parts of each show. Even squeezing in a Wardrobe change – as if they hadn’t enough to deal with :-) !! Kinsale GAA Legends Carol and Con!

Top all that off with the most professional Lighting and Sound Systems - operated by an expert team ‘running all the boards’ from the back of the room. Timing was key for all performances – and in the words of the X-Factor show “ you nailed it – John Collins, Seamus Corkery, Michael Madden, Mark Wilson, Denis O Sullivan with Pat Heagarty and Brian Kearney on Spot Lights”. Kinsale GAA Club are indebted to you all for your unbelievable commitment, dedication and drive in ensuring KinSync was not just a success, but a resounding sensational achievement. We sincerely thank each and every one of you………..

At this time we’d also like to give a big shout-out to our 4 out of this world mentors who put in huge time and effort for this event – we can never thank them all enough. Caoilfhionn Collins, Gráinne Ryan, Paul Woods and Sean O Callaghan aided by his name sake the too cool for school Ultan O Callaghan. Each mentor had 2/3 acts appointed to them. Our marvellous mentors provided their acts with incredible support from advice on song choice, help with lip sync routine, wardrobe, answering questions – instilling confidence! They were all a huge huge part in shaping the fantastic entertainment that was produced over both nights. Thank you so much guys.

And not forgetting another great bunch of people who were also vital to the success of the shows. Their comments and interaction with Carol and Con and all of our Acts was superb and made for some great entertainment throughout both shows – we can’t thank our wonderful Judges enough for taking time out of their busy schedules to be with us for KinSync.

FRIDAY NIGHT JUDGES: Janet Frawley, Eoin Ryan and Ciarán Fitzgerald.

SATURDAY NIGHT JUDGES: Gemma O Connor, Sharon Crosbie, Tomás O Brien.

The club are very conscious of the great support it has always received from the community of Kinsale and so for this show it was determined to include something that would give back to the community. So a little twist was added - all the Acts were asked to nominate a charity close to their hearts and the winning act on each night would win €1000 for their nominated charity!

Our Fantastic Winners on both nights were:
Friday night:- Tina’s Rollers Charity Kinsale RNLI to receive €1000
Saturday night:- Guys n Dolls Charity Marymount Hospice to receive €1000

Over the past 5/6 years Kinsale GAA has expanded hugely with now over 1100 members and the facilities on Bandon Road and our new facility in Dunderrow are feeling the strain! We need to improve our facilities to cater for our ever-growing club. At the moment we have approximately 640 Boys & Girls Underage playing both hurling/camogie and football for the club (i.e. 6 to 18 year olds), along with our Intermediate Mens Football and Junior Men’s Hurling and Football Teams, a Junior Ladies Camogie Team and of course our amazing Ladies Football Team, now Senior for 2018 (the first ever Senior team for the club) – how they have raised the profile of our club in the past 2/3 years with their phenomenal success is fantastic - Double County, Double Munster Champions and reaching 2 All-Ireland Finals two years in a row. And not to forget our Minor Men who are County Hurling Champions in 2017 and also reached the County Football Final only to be beaten in a closely contested match!

To bring our facilities in line with our On-Pitch successes we need to Fundraise as much money as we can and our KinSync Event has helped us enormously to do just that. All monies raised from the event itself will go directly to our Club Development Fund. The final numbers are still being calculated but its looking like KinSync raised an approximate 16K for the Club Development Fund – absolutely fantastic stuff – THANK YOU KINSALE SINCERELY FROM EVERYONE AT THE CLUB – AS ALWAYS WE ARE COMPLETELY OVERWHELMED WITH THE AMOUNT OF UNWAVING SUPPORT FOR KINSALE GAA . Please note this is an approximation only and the figure may change!

Report - Picturesque West Cork Town struck down again!

Kinsale is a beautiful tourist town nestled in West Cork and the starting point for many of the Wild Atlantic Way. Famous for its gourmet restaurants and colourful winding streets, this gorgeous town, which was gripped in an epidemic of huge proportions when the SF (Strictly Fever) struck back in late 2015, has once again been struck down with a new and more deadly Fever – KSF (KinSync Fever). This new Fever has mutated from the more commonly known and less potent LSF (Lip Sync Fever) which broke out in various other towns nationwide. As of now the Health Service Executive has admitted there is no confirmed cure for this newly developed and lethal Fever in Kinsale and are advising visitors to be very careful.

Locals have been advised to stay indoors and not to make unnecessary journeys – instigating a curfew has not been ruled out!

The symptoms to watch out for are, an uncontrollable need to ‘sing into any object’ in your hand. Both eyes it seems cannot remain opened while this funny singing is on-going. In-Sync Dance Moves, Wig Wearing, OTT Make-up and the most contagious of all indicators of infection– the appearance that a person is conversing with you but actually there is no sound coming from their mouth, only lip movement!!

Cases have been reported from all over town - the isles in SuperValu and Lidl it seems have been blocked as infectious people sing into carrots, cucumbers, bottles of water or juice to name but a few items. The Blue Haven, Hamlets, Jim Edwards, Max’s, Salvis and Actons have all reported unusual behaviour with guests suddenly jumping up in the middle of eating their food to sing uncontrollably in silence into a spoon ! Bars, Coffee Shops, Frank Curtains Electrical, Maurice Murphys, Fintan Lynches to name but a few, have all reported many incidents.

A recent statement issued by the HSE states - if you encounter one of these KinSyncers (name given to infected people) please do not under any circumstances approach them and report the location to WHO – the World Health Organisation – who have been made aware of the outbreak.

In a bold move earlier last week WHO despatched a team of scientists who are experts in the field of Fevers. A spokesperson for the organisation confirmed that while it was probably a bit early to despatch the EB to deal with the situation it felt it was worth a shot to try and contain the situation. On arrival in Kinsale EB (i.e. codename Easter Bunny) set up Camp in Actons Hotel – where the function room was booked out for 2 nights (2nd and 3rd February). It was hoped that these information/fact finding/demonstration nights would better equip people to deal with KSF, by knowing the dangers and which symptoms to watch out for, thereby quelling the spread of KSF and this deadly Fever would phase itself out over the weekend.

Bad news for Kinsale however as the plan back-fired hugely – both nights had the total opposite effect with KSF (KinSync Fever) exploding onto the streets, finding its way to every corner in Kinsale Town – some reports are also suggesting that it has reached the neighbouring villages of Belgooly and Ballinspittle!!

WHO have now confirmed its an epidemic of catastrophic proportions. At a recent press conference EB (codename Easter Bunny) under duress also confirmed that while the 2015 Fever had for the most part left Kinsale – it was concerned about a small group who were still symptomatic with SF (Strictly Fever) and admitted that they were quite worried about the combination of the two Fevers (KSF and SF) and the effect it would have on these poor people. It seems this group are unfortunately displaying unusual symptoms – of swopping genders with the girls dressing as men and the lads dressing as girls (including the wearing of wigs – in one extreme case a wig with ponytails!), in-sync dance moves, tattoos, as well as all the other KSF symptoms mentioned above. Combine that with some of the SF indicators like the Shoulder Shrugs, shaking your booty, the pointing to the floor and then to the ceiling move, rolly polly and mashed potato move and it’s a receipe for disaster.

So Kinsale will remain in the grips of this new Fever which it seems now has to run its course over a few months. EB (codename Easter Bunny) will return in early April to monitor the situation again closely.

Another statement issued by WHO confirms that if KSF has not disappeared by the end of the year – they will once again have to dispatch their leading Specialists in Fevers in early December to take control of the situation. S.A.N.T.A. (StrictlyFever and NightFever Top Analyst) and E.L.F. (Elevated LipSync Fevers - to KSF ) could arrive in Kinsale as early as 8th December and remain in situ till the 26th!

Good luck Kinsale for the future!

Over n out from KinSync Land – Someday we’ll all be back there again:-)!
