Three Championship Finals………….
“Successful:- (Adjective) Definition: achieving or having achieved success”
Kinsale GAA certainly falls under this definition perfectly. As a club we have become very used to ‘being successful’, it has become the norm, like something you do every day, like having breakfast! Some clubs, maybe most clubs on the island of Ireland only dare to dream of the kind of success Kinsale GAA has had and continues to have. Both on and off the pitch we continue to push the boundaries, always striving for more, for better, to be the best………….long may that continue ……………….what a phenomenal place the club is in now, the future indeed looks very bright.
Minor County Final:
‘Creating club history’ also seems to be the norm and this coming Saturday at 2.30pm (28th October) our Minor U18 Boys will take to the field of play V Doneraile and set their own mark in club history by becoming the first ever Minor Boys Team to reach a County Hurling Final. Never before have we had a Minor Team compete at this level in the history of the club. The closest Kinsale came was to reach two County Hurling Semi-Finals in 1971 and 1996!
So unchartered territory for our Minors on Saturday – what an incredible accomplishment for this group of players, but not surprising either…………….. this team (inclusive of Players and Coaches/Mentors) is focused, hard-working and very determined, with high turn-outs at all training sessions, ensuring that fitness, skill and team spirit is maintained throughout the season.
A large contingent of Under 16 players (who themselves reached a County Hurling A Semi-Final this year) train with their Minor team mates on a regular basis, it is a very strong team with plenty of ability to take this County Final on Saturday.
Loads and loads of support is what is needed now on the on side-lines. For players to see and hear encouragement from their club, really is the last driving force that is required to help these lads push on to win a First ever Minor County Hurling Final for Kinsale GAA Club.
Be there, be part of history, these lads absolutely deserve all our support –they have worked extremely hard to get to this Final – we must now do our bit and show how proud we are of their achievements – and we can do that by displaying Flags, bunting in our homes, schools and business and more importantly we show it by being on the side-lines on Final day!
(Unfortunately a venue hasn’t been confirmed as yet for this final – as soon as these details are given to us – we will send it out immediately).
East Final:
With rescheduling of games due to Hurricane Ophelia and Storm Brian, our Minor Team are on duty again on Bank Holiday Monday (30th) at 12 o’clock after a short 2 day break. This time they must turn their attention to Football as they face our near neighbours and local rivals Courcey Rovers in the East Championship Final. Plenty at stake here - a local derby win is always sweet, but more importantly it would send the team into yet another County shake-up which could see these Under 18 lads still in action well into November.
Two big big games in two days is no small feat for these young players – the team needs huge support on Monday to encourage and drive them on to secure this divisional win. Take a ‘sos beag’ from the Jazz and lay low outta town for a couple of hours - The Showdown begins at High Noon at the OK Corral (AKA Belgooly Pitch) Bank Holiday Monday :-) :-)!!! Not to be missed!
Munster Final
Our Intermediate Ladies Football Team are looking to secure a ‘second in a row’ Munster Title on Saturday 4th November. If this were a PDP (personal development plan) in a work environment – ‘Exceeds Expectations’ would most definitely be ticked. This is the stuff that dreams are made of – clubs all over Ireland, will in their lifetime never reach these heights. Here we are in Kinsale with 2 in a row County Titles and the prospect of 2 in a row Munster Titles and just to add the icing on the top, achieving the 2017 County title and hoping to secure the 2017 Munster title at a higher grade (coming from Junior to Intermediate).
And the Cherry on top of all that is a promotion to a “Senior Ladies Football Team” for 2018. It is a phenomenal achievement by this group of women. But not attained by chance. This was a goal set out and agreed on and a plan formulated to achieve it. Sacrifices made, Training hard, staying focused, determination, never giving up, working together and supporting each other as a group. Result – 2 County Titles, 1 Munster Title, 1 All-Ireland Final reached and now another Munster Final to contend, all in two years.
This Ladies Football Team, their Mentors and Coaches deserve all our support and encouragement – what an incredible journey they took us on in 2016 and now the journey has begun again and hopefully will continue for 2017. Keep Saturday 4th November free – lots of support on the side-lines for this hugely important Munster Final is key – let’s leave Kinsale in huge numbers and invade where ever the venue will be set for – let’s turn that town/venue Blue & White too.
(as soon as we have a time and venue for this important fixture we will get it out to everyone immediately)
The time has come to once again show our Serious Support – it’s not easy to get to this level of success. It’s time once more to display our pride in this fantastic team. We are calling on everyone to put up a flag, some bunting around their homes, schools and businesses – Our Intermediate Team are not only representing Kinsale GAA, but our Town and our County – getting Kinsale mentioned in ‘the paper’ - local and others!!
So let’s go Blue & White all around Kinsale in support of both our fantastic teams on duty over the next few days.
We wish them all the very very best of luck – fingers and toes crossed :-).
Go raibh míle maith agaibh go léir.
WE ARE HOPING TO HAVE BUNTING AND FLAGS AVAILABLE TO PURCHASE FROM MAURICE MURPHY’S SHOP FROM TOMORROW FRIDAY (27TH OCT)
