Intermediate County Champions 2017!
Well done to Kinsale Ladies who are Intermediate County Champions and will play Senior Football next year!
It took a while for both teams to settle with a number of wides for both teams including 2 goal chances for Rosscarbery which rebounded off the crossbar!
The first point didn't come until the 9th minute when Orla Finn kicked a great ball over the bar!
This was followed by a super point from Ellen Murphy who played a stormer on the wings! Loraine Copithorne fed great ball into the Forwards and on the 16th minute Sadhbh O Leary put the ball in the back of the net! This meant that Kinsale led at half time 1-5 to 0-2 thanks to great defensive play from Eadaoin Lynch and Emma O Brien.
The second half ebbed and flowed with both sides kicking points but another goal on the 13th minute from Sadhbh put Kinsale in a very comfortable lead 2-10 to 0-5!
But this Rosscarbery side were never going to give up and within 10 minutes they added three goals to the scoreboard and it meant a very tense finish in Newcestown!
With only 2 minutes to go there was a single point between the teams, 2-11 to 3-7 but super forward Sadhbh O Leary had only one thing on her mind and added another goal to her tally of 3-3 and she was the deserved winner of 'Laoch na hImeartha'!
The huge crowd were relieved at the final whistle and the game ended on a scoreline of 3-11 to 3-7.
Captain, Aisling Keating accepted the Cup on behalf of the team and paid huge gratitude to the supporters and the deserved management team who have brought this team so far over the last 18 months!
This game also doubled up as the West Cork Final and Vice Captain, Aisling Lee accepted this cup!
Kinsale now look forward to the Munster Championship and Senior football in 2017! Cionn tSáile Abú!
