Innovative and Exciting New GAA Program launched in Kinsale Community School

Great event last night (Friday, 1st September) in Kinsale Community School with the official launch of a Hurling Project jointly planned between KCS and local GAA clubs whose players attend the school.
The purpose of the project is to maximize the hurling talent that exists in the school with a view to competing and challenging for honors in top tier Schools Hurling Competitions.

On the Project Committee that has been formed to drive this initiative we have Niall Murphy (Courceys) as Chairman, with our own Brian Murphy taking on the role of Secretary.
The initial focus will be on U18 and U16 age groups with training commencing this coming Sunday at 9.30am in the new KCS Astro Turf.

Coaches are Diarmuid Corcoran (Courceys), John Hurley ( Ballymartle), Ger O Regan ( Kinsale ) and Cathal Murphy ( Tracton).

Pictured are coaches for U18 and U16 age groups, together with John Corcoran KCS, Fergal McCarthy Principal KCS and Niall Murphy Chairman of the project team.

Kinsale GAA Social & Cultural Night – another fantastic success again this year

Last Thursday night (31st August) The Temperance Hall was full of people and lots of fantastic traditional music. Sensational singers, a wonderful Whistler, huge amount of instruments being played to perfection (Harps, Violins, Flutes, Bag Pipes, Accordians, Banjo, pianos to name but a few) and the All-Ireland Fleadh Ceoil Winners performed their piece that won them the title and received a rapturous applause and a well-deserved standing ovation. Well Done to Chris Cronin who MC’d the evening – watch out Daiti O Shea, your spot on Rose of Tralee could be in danger:-)!

Tea, Coffee, Cakes and Biscuits were available throughout the evening.

Thanks as always to Ger Finn for organising this very popular event and huge thanks to all the volunteers who helped on the night.

Upcoming Club Meetings

The September Club Meeting will take place next Monday the 3rd at 9pm. Venue is Aperitif in the Blue Haven.

The Boys Underage Meeting will be held in the Keg Room at Hamlet's on Monday 11th September at 9pm.

All members are welcome to both meetings.

Bus to Camogie Final – Not enough people travelling
Unfortunately we won’t be ‘putting on’ a bus to travel to Dublin on 10th September to support Cork in the All-Ireland Camogie Final – with only a small group of people interested in travelling – hiring of the bus etc would work out very expensive per person/family.

Best of luck to Cork – Up the Rebelettes!

U12 West Cork League Final Report submitted by Brian Collins

Kinsale were beaten by a physically stronger Bandon team on a score of 5-8 to 0-5 in the West Cork league Final on Sunday last in Clonakilty.
The girls had done exceptionally well beating Valleys, Clon, Skibb, Courceys and Doheny’s on the way to the final but came up against a stronger team on the day.
The girls fought to the bitter end and had tremendous support and it was great to see all the blue and white colours on the day.
It was a great experience for the girls and should stand to them going forward.
An enjoyable evening was had in Hamlet’s after by players and parents alike.

Under 12 Boys Report submitted by Eithne Fitzpatrick

Our U12 boys have had busy few days. They got invited to the Johnny Leahy hurling tournament in Cobh last Saturday and represented their club in style against Kiltha Og, Erins Own, Cobh and Aghada. Great day had by all. Those who travelled were Max Condon, Evan O Dowd, Cathal Barry, Ronan Webb, Senan Aherne, Ted O Callaghan, Callum Griffin, Conor Fitzpatrick, Hugh Hoare, David Looney, Gearoid Kearney, Charlie O Sullivan, Rory Griffin, Ross McCarthy and Cillian Fitzpatrick.

Then it was football last Monday against St Michaels. With scores hard to come by, due to unusually small goalposts (St Michaels tactic??!!), at half-time it was Kinsale in the lead 3-2 to 2-3. It was put up to our lads in the second half, as at one stage we were down 4 points, but their resilience shone out and they finished strongly to win 6-4 to 4-4. Brilliant team effort. Team was Cal O Riordan, Timmy Price, Cathal Barry, Ronan Webb, Callum Griffin, Ted O Callaghan, Jonathon Walsh, David Looney, Conor Fitzpatrick, Charlie O Sullivan, Gearoid Kearney, Oisin Joyce, Conor Bailey, Max Condon, Senan Aherne, Patrick McGillicuddy and Evan O Dowd.

And then it was Hurling (P2 grade) again last night (Friday 1st Sept) when Nemo Rangers came to visit. It was a glorious evening out in Dunderrow Pitch – perfect Hurling weather and our Under 12 lads shone as brightly as the sun producing a fantastic win – final score 4-4 to 3-2. Another great team performance.

Well done to all the players and coaches.

Under 14 Boys submitted by Glynn Aherne

Our U14 Hurlers just came up short in Passage last night (1st Sept) and lost by a goal. One of those nights when the sliotar just refused to go into the back of the net!!! Final Score Passage 4-3 : Kinsale 3-3.
Well done to all. Great game!

Under 16 Boys submitted by Kevin Sheehan
