U16A West Hurling Semi Final submitted by Kevin Sheehan

Kinsale 2-13 – Courcey Rovers 2-5

Kinsale beat near neighbours Courceys in this hard fought semi-final in Kilbrittain. On the receiving end of a fairly comprehensive defeat to them in the earlier league encounter and better prepared Kinsale had the upper hand for most of the game.

Kinsale 1st venture into the A grade has come after continuous hard work/practice/training by the lads and it shows what can be done with hurling if encouraged.

On a damp night in Kilbrittain Kinsale fought hard for every ball from the start. Both sides matched each other stride for stride up to half time with Kinsale just edging ahead by 2 points. (2-3 to 1-8).

Early 2nd half dominance by Kinsale yielded no scores except a plethora of wide followed by a strike against the crossbar (our 2nd one on the night). Courceys struck on their 1st attack to close it to the minimum. Kinsale however were not for wilting and a goal followed by a number of points closed out a terrific victory.

Kinsale had many fine performances on the night as one must half to win a championship game but special mention to U15 Kealan O’Rourke who had an outstanding game at centre back.

Team:
Brian O’Neill (Parachuted into goal 5 mins before the start due to injury)
Gerry Coughlan/James Crowley (Capt)/ Jack Etty,
Harry Sheehan/Kealan O’Rourke/Tom O’Connell
Conor McCarthy/Conal Gilleran
Andrew O’Connell/John O’Brien/Cian Murphy
Michael Murphy/Ethan Coughlan/Robbie Sweetnam

Subs:
Ryan O’Sullivan/Kian Browne/Leon Buckley/
Sam Peare/Harry Mccarthy and Rory McCarthy

Final is fixed for MONDAY next Aug 28th @ 1900 v. IBANE Gaels.
KILBRITTAIN

The lads are hoping that the whole club will get behind us and shout us home on the night. It’s also an opportunity to show the younger lads what can be achieved. Finals don’t come around too often.

On behalf of the U16 panel and he club we would also like to wish Kealan O’Rourke all the best as he represents Kinsale on the Cork U15 Hurling panel this weekend. They are involved in the Munster U15 Championship on SATURDAY 26th next out in Brinny.

U16 A Football Quarter Final submitted by Kevin Sheehan

Kinsale 3-13 – Aghada 3-8

After the excitement of the hurling semi win our lads needed to turn their attention to the football championship the following Monday. With little preparation behind us we faced a tough task against league
leaders Aghada. On their previous visit to Kinsale – Aghada ran out winners by about 5 points.

On another damp (Summer?) night Aghada were quick out of the traps and after 15 minutes it looked like Kinsale were going to get a lesion. Aghada full of running and precision place raced into a 5 point lead. However Kinsale are nothing if not resilient and dragged themselves back into the tie. With limited possession our tactic of playing Harry Sheehan and John O’Brien in the full forward line enabled us to reach parity at the break 1-6 to 1-6.

Kinsale came out after HT and upped their pace and drive. We won more ball & came to terms with Aghada’ s quickness and guile. This enabled us score 2 more goals and tack on the points. Instrumental in this phase was Michael Murphy who scored 1-3 from play in the all-important 3rd quarter. A late goal put a little gloss on the score line for Aghada but Kinsale were just about deserving at the finish.

Team:
Brian O’Neill
Cian Murphy/Kealan O’Rourke/James Crowley
Ethan Coughlan/Tom O’Connell/Conal Gilleran
Conor McCarthy/Jack Etty
Harry Mccarthy/Andrew O’Connell/Finn O’Brien
Harry Sheehan/John O’Brien/Michael Murphy

Subs:
Gerry Coughlan/Jack Walsh/Luke Desmond/
Leon Buckley/Sea Rua O’Donoghue

Under 16A Girls Football – County Quarter Final: submitted by Catherine Murphy

A thriller to the end with fantastic Football Skills from both teams on display, keeping the sizeable supporting crowd on their toes for the entire match. They are now through to the County Semi-Final!
